Mazda is an intriguing brand. It is solidly in the middle market but its approach is much more of a high-end, high performance car. Mazda’s mantra is that driving matters and that a person should celebrate the drive, not just go from Point A to Point B. Every car, the company says, should be both beautiful and functional. The company even talks about bringing people “joy” with a responsive drive that makes people feel connected.
And, wouldn’t you know. They did it!
The Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring front wheel drive is a perfect example. With a starting price around $29,000, the SUV delivers on Mazda promise of fun and performance. The car drives so sharply and nimbly and with so much zest that one truly forgets you’re in a SUV. It handles like a sports car and takes the corners like a pro. It is a blast to drive, something that drivers taking a turn in one of its competitors probably wouldn’t say. The Grand Touring crossover that we drove had front wheel drive, although all-wheel drive is available.
